Dr. Panitch is Professor of Neurology at the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, and founder and director of the Multiple Sclerosis Center at Fletcher Allen Health Care in the same city. The center, which serves patients with MS in northern New England and upstate New York, is the site of several ongoing clinical trials evaluating new therapies for various stages of MS. Before relocating to Vermont, Dr. Panitch was Professor of Neurology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, and was involved as principal investigator in clinical trials of immunomodulating agents.

A member of the Medical Advisory Board of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and former Chair of the Section on Multiple Sclerosis of the American Academy of Neurology, his principal clinical interests are the diagnosis and management of MS and other immune-mediated diseases of the central and peripheral nervous systems. His major research interests include clinical trial design, immunoregulation of disease activity in MS, and therapy of MS with immunomodulating agents.

The author of 19 book chapters, 83 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and 78 abstracts and letters, Dr. Panitch also serves as a reviewer for the Annals of Neurology, Neurology, the Journal of Neuroimmunology, the Journal of the Neurological Sciences, and the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.
